During European mental health week, our colleague Nora Vaes shares 8 tips to you ensure that you make healthy choices while working from home:
✅Take a (short) walk before you start to work. Morning light contains a large dose of ‘blue light’, which helps maintain your biological clock. It energizes your body and mind. At night you fall asleep more easily and this structures your day.
✅Start your day with tasks that don’t require to sit behind your screen. If necessary, sit at a different table at that time. With your laptop, why not “move” with the sense of the sun?
✅Change chairs every other hour. Changing your sitting position avoids muscle tension in your neck and shoulders.
✅Choose a different communication channel than an online meeting. Alternate with audio calls and, if you can, a walking meeting, which (literally) provides oxygen. Only at the end of the walking meeting you can sit down behind your laptop and write down what you have decided.
✅An adjustable desk allows you to work standing up.Or walk around during every phone call.
✅Drink lots of water. It is the best excuse to occasionally leave your chair and screen 😉
✅Take a decent lunch break. And don’t do this at your desk.
✅End your day with a walk outside – or some other outdoor activity.
